considering its almost

50 feet long and weighs damn near 90 tons, a whale is frustratingly difficult to properly photograph.  its jumping out of the water like a half mile away from you, you’re on a boat thats pitching and rolling with the ocean, you may have had a few beers on the way out (ha!), and the early evening glow is bouncing off of the ocean and creating all sorts of overexposure issues and dropping bright glints of light that your autofocus locks onto….

you pretty much guess at where its gonna breach, lock your exposure in with your camera in manual mode, and spray and pray.

canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm f/2.8 +2x teleconverter.  ISO 800, 400mm f/2.8 @1000 sec.

and it still isn’t properly exposed or focused.  thankfully its well composed.  shit is hard!!
